About James

James was born in San Francisco, California, and grew up there immersed in a spirited family culture of classical performing arts and modern media production. His mother was a principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet and his father was a composer for film and television. Despite being a self-taught magician, class clown, and a scene-stealing ham in every school theater production, it was his baseball skills that got him recruited to Macalester College in Minnesota. There, he foolishly tried to combine sports and theater with an English and computer science double major. After an exhausting first year, fortune took him to London on summer break where he saw a production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal. Slowly walking out of the theater, still in the shadow of the marquee, he was struck by a lightning bolt of clarity. He decided to dedicate his life to acting.

He changed his major to theater and began preparing to audition in New York for the top drama schools in the world. Thrilled to be accepted by the acclaimed Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, he trained in Glasgow for three years. He recently graduated with a BA in Acting and was the recipient of several awards, including the Sir John Gielgud Bursary Award, the Nora Cooper Mulligan Award for Verse Speaking, the Tricia Scott Prize, the R.C. Buchanan Prize, and he came in first place at the AESS competition.

James has a passion for Shakespeare as well as film and TV. When he’s not acting, he loves to read, play the piano, and has recently become addicted to chess. He’s currently living and working between the UK and the US.
